I recently entered my local Kroger store and was happily greeted with holiday happiness. I spotted the new holiday display from Glade® filled with some amazing scents of the season. You know, the types of scents that bring back memories of days gone by. I love the scents of the holidays, especially scents that bring back memories of family time staying cozy through cold winter days. Yes, it does get cold here in Texas!
The cold weather brings out the fuzzy slipper socks, holiday scented candles and baking at our house. It’s become a tradition. This year’s Glade® Limited Edition Winter Collection available at Kroger includes scents that evoke that cozy feeling of time spent together as a family. My favorite fragrances are usually the ones that smell like food. What can I say?! Just the names of the scents in this collection bring back memories of days spent together as a family. The Glade® Limited Edition Winter Collection includes scents like:
- SHARE THE SPIRIT™ – Pomegranate Sparkler™
- SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ – Vanilla Biscotti™
- CHERISH THE PRESENT™ – Apple Cinnamon
- BE AT PEACE™ – Balsam Fir & Juniper
When baking for the holidays we try to keep the menu somewhat healthy since everybody seems to be watching their waistline most of the time. Everyone loves pie around here, so I’ve come up with some easy to prepare mini fruit pies that can be made with prepared refrigerator dough. You can substitute whatever fruit you prefer, such as apples, peaches, raspberries, blueberries, etc. Make a variety and everyone can pick the flavor that they want.
EASY MINI PIES
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 tube refrigerator crescent rolls (I use the reduced fat variety)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Granny Smith Apple or other fruit of your choice
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate each section.
- Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
- Sprinkle the mixture on the dough sections.
- Slice the apple (or other fruit – peaches are another favorite at my house) and dip in the melted butter.
- Roll each section up and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-11 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- Serve warmed with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This is one of the traditions that happens in our home throughout the holidays, as well as through the cold winter months. Our home is filled with fragrances and we’re enjoying this fun and easy recipe while watching movies and sports by the fire. What traditions do you have with your family?
