Hot weather is right around the corner for most of us. It’s actually already really hot here in Texas. When hot weather hits I change-up my makeup and foundation. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re sweating your face off when walking outside where it’s hot and humid. I thought I’d put together an updated list of the best summer foundations for mature skin and products that work well for wearing when it’s hot and humid outside. You will notice that several products are still on my list from the past along with that of some of my top beauty blogging friends. Also, these products work for me any time of the year, not just in the summer.
Here’s my list of the best summer foundations for mature skin and face products (in no particular order) based on what works best for me:
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer – I wear the shade Groenland. This formula is nice and sheer, yet slightly buildable. This makes my skin feel good. I occasionally use it under a heavier foundation when my skin is feeling a little dry. It has an spf of 30 which is an added bonus. Here’s how it’s described on the company website:
“Your skin – almost bare, but better. This advanced, oil-free formula provides a translucent veil of color and sun protection while helping to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots in just four weeks. Infused with lush, naturally derived botanicals and ingredients to immediately help thirsty skin feel hydrated. Kopara from French Polynesia and mineral rich seawater revive and re-mineralize skin for a softer, smoother, and brighter natural glow.”
Chanel CC Cream – This cc cream gives medium coverage while providing “good for my skin” qualities. I wear the shade 30. My only complaints about this product are that their color range is very limited and that it’s hard to find. My skin feels great and moisturized when I use this. Like with the Nars product above, I sometimes use this under a heavier foundation if I need more coverage. I love that it has a spf of 50. Here’s how it’s described on the company website:
“Enriched with anti-aging and antioxidant properties, this lightweight, velvety cream creates a fresh and flawless complexion while correcting, soothing, moisturizing, protecting, and perfecting the skin in a single step.”
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer with SPF 50+ – It Cosmetics makes some pretty amazing cosmetics that are designed to improve the look of your skin with their ingredients. They’ve become cult favorites among more mature consumers. I’ve been a fan for many years. I wear this product in the shade Neutral Medium. The product is described as follows:
“Created with proprietary 3D Skin Flex Technology, your hydrating color-infused moisturizer provides smooth, flexible pure color pigments that float over lines and wrinkles and feel like nothing on your skin, but cover everything without creasing or cracking.”
Pur Cosmetics CC Cream – I’ve been a fan of this product for many years. It’s a multitasking moisturizer, brightener, primer, concealer and SPF foundation. I love the spf 40 as well as the way it fills in my large pores to make my skin appear smooth. I wear the medium shade.
“Ideal for all skin types and concerns, this silicone-free formula works to erase brown spots, blemishes and fine lines from sight while balancing uneven skin tone.”
Kimiko Beauty Hydrating Tint – This is a lightweight tinted moisturizer that allows the skin to peek through it for a more natural look. It’s very hydrating. I wear the Sapporo Sand shade. This product is hard to find, so I suggest juts ordering online. The company describes this product as follows:
“4-in-1 hydrates, evens tone, improves and protects+ Organic SPF for broad spectrum sun protection+ Anti-aging skincare formula improves skin.KIMIKO’s Hydrating Tint has been hailed as the original BB Cream! An editor favorite for radiant, healthy looking skin that works overtime to create better skin with continued use. Formulated with non-chemical SPF, and skin-improving ingredients including: hyaluronic acid, vitamins A ,C and E, and plant-based wonders, like ginko biloba and ginseng root extract.”
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup – This one is an oldie but a goodie! It’s a cult favorite that has everyone talking for years now. It’s known for its long wear time, even in hot humid weather since it’s waterproof. This foundation is available in 42 different shades, so everyone should be able to find a match. I wear the shade Fresco.
“Flawless. Natural. Matte. Unifies uneven skintone, covers imperfections with buildable medium to full coverage. Feels lightweight and so comfortable, you won’t believe it’s super long wear.”
Covergirl Vitalist Elixer – This is the only drugstore foundation in my list of favorites right now. I’ve already repurchased it twice. I wear the shade 740 which is Natural Beige. This gives my skin a nice dewy appearance with medium coverage.
“Hydrate your skin while keeping it looking flawless with COVERGIRL Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation. Finally a hydrating, vitamin-infused formula for beautiful, buildable coverage that glides on smoothly for a flawless look. This liquid foundation is infused with Vitamins E, B3, B5, SPF 20 plus a special antioxidant and vitamin complex. Give your skin a health and luminous glow.”
*UPDATE 8/1/20: I’m so bummed because this foundation has been discontinued.

I’m pretty sure I am one of the few people that I haven’t tried the Double Wear Foundation. I really need to try it this summer. I’m also really curious about the Bye Bye Foundation. It sounds perfect for an easy, minimal makeup kind of day.

Pur doesn’t have a light enough shade for me. I’ve worn it in the summer but it doesn’t feel perfect. IT works great for me and is a go to.

Good to know that the It Cosmetics foundation is good for mature skin. I wanted to get my mother-in-law a new foundation as it’s been a few years since she’s worn makeup but has been showing some interest in mine but I don’t know her exact shade. That’s something I can ballpark around and be able to narrow down easier!
