Everybody wants smooth, wrinkle-free skin but not everyone knows how to achieve that look using makeup. Before you break out your creams and masks, consider changing how you contour. Contouring is one of the most popular beauty trends and when done correctly, can be an excellent way to minimize the appearance of wrinkles.
Put Away the Powder
For most women, powder does nothing but settle in fine lines and draw attention to existing wrinkles. That is why for contouring, you are much better served by using a cream or liquid base product. This will allow your contouring to cover up wrinkles rather than drawing attention to them. Powder is the traditional way to set makeup, but it is not the only way. If you are living in an environment where you need to set your makeup, try a setting spray. They come in dewy and matte finishes and will set your makeup so it lasts all day.
Cover Laugh Lines
Laugh lines are an annoyance for many women but are far from impossible to conceal. Simply take your highlight shade and place a small amount of product over the laugh lines to blend them out. While it may seem counter-intuitive to place a highlight over something you want to hide, the lighter shade will hide your laugh lines perfectly. To ensure this method works you should be using a medium to full coverage product. If you find wearing makeup around your mouth is more of a pain, talk to a place like Apothederm to see what products they might recommend for better face tightening without the concealer.
Less Concealer is More
Crow’s feet are a problem for a lot of women, particularly when concealers like to settle in the fine lines around the eyes. You do not want to stop using concealer and showing off dark circles, so what do you do? Use a lighter-toned concealer around your inner eye area and blend that out to cover your circles and highlight. This concealer can be as full-coverage as you want, as long as it does not go to the end of your eyes. Then use your foundation to conceal around the outside corner of your eyes. Foundation is much less likely to settle in these fine lines so you do not need to worry about your concealer making your imperfections look worse.
There are many ways that makeup can be used to hide your wrinkles, so don’t be afraid to experiment. Try these tips and see how easily contouring can make you look younger.

Great tips! I haven’t been able to get the hang of contouring – I’m going to try it out with cream/liquid products next.

I never thought of these as contouring but I’ve stopped using powder because it emphasizes dry skin and lines. Interesting to use foundation to conceal around the outside of eyes.

Great tips. The laugh lines highlighting is one I used to teach my brides all the time and many of them still thank me for it… I used to have really deep set laugh lines when I was a smoker, years ago… but no longer so I noticed it has improved so much and I no longer need to hide them.
