Sifting through the cluttered beauty market can be difficult, to say the least. There are so many options available, each one promising beautiful skin. How can you determine the products that will really give you the results you want? This post will help you to identify the best active ingredients for your skin type.
There’s a good method you can follow, and it’s pretty simple: You just have to pay attention to the ingredients, and understand how they work on your skin type! Today we’ll look at some active ingredients that you should be on the lookout for in beauty products, based on your skin type.
Dry Skin
Dry skin is characterized by constant irritation, often with redness, cracking, flaking, and sometimes even bleeding. The skin loses its smooth texture and starts feeling rough, almost like sandpaper. It can be caused by genetics, excessive hand-washing, and handling anything sticky or rough. Many of these same characteristics can be seen on facial skin as well.
Dry skin demands ingredients that will instantly hydrate without clogging your pores, making hyaluronic acid an essential skin care ingredient to look for. This naturally-occurring molecule can hydrate the deeper layers of the skin, coating each individual cell in moisture and allowing your skin to revive itself.
Vitamin C and Vitamin E are also important ingredients to look for in your beauty products, as they help to shuttle moisture through the skin and create a protective barrier that will prevent your skin from drying out.
Oily Skin
While an oily complexion stops your skin from experiencing the irritation of dryness, it causes its own set of problems. The increased sebum production often results in swollen pores, causing your skin to clog more easily and sometimes causing breakouts. It also creates a greasy complexion and sometimes results in excessive shine. And of course it’s greasy to the touch. Oily skin is mainly a product of genetics, and can even occur alongside dry skin, in “patches” where glandular oil production is high.
The trick to dealing with oily skin isn’t drying it out, but instead cleaning it thoroughly and often to ensure that the excess oils don’t linger on your skin too long. Don’t simply wash with soap and water over and over, as this can dry skin out. Instead look for beauty products with clay and glycolic acid, as they can help to reduce excess oil, as well as tighten your complexion and minimize the look of pores.
Mature Skin
The anti-aging benefits in many beauty products are useful at any age, but if you’re looking for ingredients that will truly take the years off your skin, you’ll want a team of active ingredients working on your side.
Hydroquinone goes a long way towards evening out your skin tone and reducing the look of sunspots. Alpha hydroxy acids help to smooth fine lines and add a dose of radiance to your complexion. Finish off your anti-aging skin care with a high-quality natural retinol, which helps to firm and tighten your skin by boosting collagen and elastin.
What’s your skin type? Do you use any of these mentioned ingredients in your current skincare routine?

I don’t have super dry skin but I do use a lot of skincare for dry. Since I have mature skin I probably should be following that more.
