Just like your body may feel weary after a long flight, so could your skin: low humidity, dry cabins, and recycled air wreak havoc on your skin. These factors cause dehydration and increase oil production which, in turn, can cause breakouts and clogged pores.
Here are a few steps to help you take care of your skin before and after a flight…
Wash your face thoroughly
One of most important routines is washing your face thoroughly before sleeping and after waking up, this is evermore so true after being on a flight for several hours. Once you get off the flight, make sure to wash your face to remove all impurities, oil and dirt, thus preventing breakouts.
Hydrate
Keeping your skin extra moisturized is very important before getting on a plane. So make sure to apply a nourishing face cream to your skin and, if you feel your skin is dry during the flight, reapply it. Make sure to choose a cream that is nourishing but not heavy, like the Blue Lagoon mineral moisturizing cream for example. For a little extra boost and radiance, apply a serum over it, like Vitamin C.
Hydrate from the inside out
Since flying causes dehydration, you must drink lots of water before and after the flight. Hydrating your body also includes watching what you eat before the flight, up your intake of fruits and vegetables that help hydrate the skin. Also, do not forget to eat carbs, these will help you sleep during the flight and a relaxed flight will be good for your skin.
Apply under-eye patches to de-puff your eye area
Your diet may be compromising your under-eye area, so it is recommended that you use eye patches to reduce puffiness and dark circles. It also helps to brighten your eye area because of the cooling texture of the eye patches.
If you can go to a steam room
The steam room helps you breathe easier and more deeply, and it also helps the skin by opening up the pores and eliminating toxins. Steam rooms should be a post-flight ritual because it helps improve your skin’s appearance and lowers blood pressure. Once the blood vessels are dilated and start pumping more blood into your body, your skin glows due to this effect.
Massage your skin
Massage your skin with a jade roller before sleeping to improve blood circulation in your skin. The lymphatic system detoxifies your skin because a massage boosts blood circulation below the skin’s surface. After the massage, apply a face oil.
