Every year the company Beautylish puts together something called a Lucky Bag. The bags are limited in quantity on their website and retail for $75 each (there are other options available as well). I’ve been purchasing these for years. I even set an alarm on my phone to remind me when the purchase option opens up on the day after Christmas. Some years I am thrilled with the contents in my box and other years I’m kinda disappointed. This year definitely wasn’t my favorite. Keep reading to see what I received in my Lucky Bag from Beautylish 2021 and my opinion about the contents…
I learned that Fukubukuro (福袋, [ɸɯkɯbɯkɯɾo] “lucky bag”) is a Japanese New Year custom in which merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount, usually 50% or more off the list price of the items contained within. Surprises can definitely be a fun pick-me-up to start off the new year.
HOURGLASS AMBIANT STROBE LIGHTING BLUSH IN INCANSESCENT ELECTRA MSRP $40 – This is a hybrid blush that combines the luminous effect of Ambient Lighting Powder with modern cheek color. I already have several of these products and I really like them. Unfortunately for me, this one isn’t in a shade that I feel like I will use.
CHARLOTTE TILBURY LUXURY PALETTE OF POPS IN DAZZLING DIAMONDS MSRP $53 – This is an eyeshadow quad to make your eyes pop with four shades of shimmering, sparkling shadow. It’s another miss for me because these aren’t shades that I wear.
SONIA G MINI BOOSTER BRUSH MSRP $26 – This is a mini crease brush made from Brown Saikoho Goat Hair. I haven’t used it yet, but it feels nice and has good ratings.
LINA CHOO THE GREAT ARTIST VELVET MATTE IN THE SHADE ANDERSON MSRP $32 – This lipstick has top ratings and is a soft cool pink shade. I didn’t open mine yet because I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep it or give it away. There are some gorgeous shades in the collection that I would have preferred.
JUNO MICROFIBER LEMON DROP SPONGE MSRP $6 – 30% softer than the original Microfiber Velvet Sponge, this teardrop-shaped makeup sponge allows for the same seamless application, but with a gentler feel. I have had a few of these sponges from the brand in the past and I love them! I’m really happy with this item and recommend you try this because it’s so much more affordable than the Beauty Blender sponge.
ARDELL Natural Lashes MSRP $4.20 – I don’t wear false lashes, so unfortunately this isn’t something that I will be keeping. I personally don’t think they should put something that can be purchased at every corner drugstore into these bags. That’s just my opinion.
GOOD MOLECULES Pineapple Exfoliating Powder MSRP $16 – This product gently exfoliates away dead skin and dullness with this fruit enzyme-powered powder. This brand is very impressive as far quality of skincare. I already have this product from PR samples. I’m happy to have an extra one for future use in my Lucky Bag.
VERDICT – As you can see, my box was filled with an assortment of both high end and low end products. I like some things better than others. Everything is nice quality, however I just wish the shades were suited more to my personal liking. That’s the chance I take when I order a SURPRISE type of box, so I’m definitely not complaining. You can see a few of my previous bags here on my blog for 2016, 2017 and 2020.
