I have had the true pleasure of being able to follow my passion of makeup and skincare by taking a certified makeup artist online course. The course that I’m taking is from the Online Makeup Academy which is based in New York. They offer classes for a variety of levels from beginners to more advanced courses. They even offer specialty courses in Bridal Makeup, Special FX Makeup and Hairstyling. I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for the opportunity to take these classes.
I’m currently enrolled in their Essentials Course, which is considered level one for beginners like me who have no formal training. The course begins with the very basics including topics from proper etiquette to makeup brushes to kit basics to color matching and more. Advanced topics include a wide variety of application techniques including glam looks, natural looks, bridal makeup, mature skin and more.

The Essentials course is currently an affordable $799. This can be paid with their monthly subscription plan if desired. When choosing the subscription plan you still get full access to everything in the course and full support from the instructors. There is an option to purchase a full kit filled with all of the makeup and tools you’d need to get started. I did not purchase the kit because I already have an arsenal of makeup and tools.
To complete the course you do your online course work, turn in homework and take a completion test at the end. Turning in homework and getting feedback from my class mentor has been one of the best parts of the course for me. I like to get critiqued so I can know how I’m doing so that I can make adjustments to improve my skills.
