Halloween is literally right around the corner. It’s one of my favorite holidays, but not for the dressing up part… I love Halloween because I love filling treat bags for the neighborhood kids. I remember a fun Halloween activity that we did when my kids were young called “Booing.” Have you heard of it? The idea is for little ones to leave some goodies on a neighbor’s doorstep without being seen, then encourage the recipient to pay it forward to two more friends. It’s a fun way to surprise the neighborhood kids.
My kids are grown now. However, I love this idea and thought it would be fun to teach the neighbor littles about this fun tradition. I filled a bag with treats for the kids who live next door to me. I loved hearing the happy squeals upon discovering the treasure I left on their front porch.
Help your kids start a BOO in your neighborhood:
-
A few days or weeks before Halloween, work with your kids to put together some simple and festive treats. Think pretzels, temporary tattoos, a Halloween pencil and, of course, Go Organically Organic Fruit Snacks. To hold the goodies, you can use a plastic jack-o’-lantern bucket or a plastic witch’s cauldron that can later be repurposed for Halloween parties or trick-or-treating.
-
Download and print a YOU’VE BEEN BOOED sheet and attach it to the basket. It includes a frighteningly fun poem to let your recipient know what’s afoot! Note that the sheet includes a URL at the bottom so people can go online to print additional copies and keep the party going. The poem reads:
YOU’VE BEEN BOOED
With fall upon us and Halloween near
A ghost dropped by to spread some cheer
Enjoy these goodies left at your door
Then get new treats and boo two more
Surprise a friend but stay out of sight
Let’s spread some cheer by Halloween night!
-
Once you’ve assembled the basket and attached the poem, it’s booing time! Take your kid to their friend’s house and sneak up to the doorstep together to leave the goodies without getting caught.
