Do you need advice on choosing foundation for your mature skin? When I say “mature skin,” I’m referring to us ladies over 40 who may have different skin characteristics than our daughters. As time goes by more products are introduced into the marketplace. I thought it was time for an updated post about my favorite foundations for mature skin because new products come out all the time. Let’s take a look at my current favorite foundation products. This list includes a section of long-time favorites because those deserve a shout out too.

As far as foundation goes, I rarely wear straight up foundation. I prefer products that allow my skin to peek through rather than full coverage. With that being said, there are times when full coverage is desired, so I keep a few of those types of products around to use as needed.
As I look at the photo above of some of my foundation fav’s, I see the variance in undertones. This is because I have neutral skin and can wear both cool and warm foundation shades.
Long-time foundation favorites
I’m going to start with long time favorites that work well for mature skin. These first few are products have ingredients that benefit the skin while providing various amounts of coverage. I consider these to be multi-taskers because they’re “one and done” products for me. I don’t feel the need to apply primers or anything else under them. These are mostly tinted moisturizers and cc creams that also have spf in them too.
- It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation – I’m not sure how It Cosmetics managed to make a tinted moisturizer that gives full coverage, but they knocked it out of the park with this product. I’ve purchased it over and over again in the shade medium neutral.
- Lancome Expert Mineral CC Cream – This is another one that I’ve purchased many times over. I feel like this cc cream is a thinner consistency that can be layered for times when more coverage is desired. It gives a nice dewy type finish. I wear shade 02.
- Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation – If you need or prefer full coverage foundation, then this may be the one for you. It gives great coverage and it lasts well through the summer humidity too. There’s a reason this foundation receives top ranking among makeup lovers of all ages. I usually wear the shade Fresco.
- Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – This foundation is one that always has a spot on my vanity. It gives a beautiful lit from within glow to the skin. It’s buildable for more coverage if and when it’s needed. I wear shade 5.
New foundation products that I love for mature skin
These next two products are newer for me and I immediately fell in the love with the coverage and how long they last on my skin.
MAC Cosmetics Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation – This foundation is described as a “hydrating formula contains a moisture fusion complex to immediately moisturize and feed the skin. Protects with SPF 30 and is perfect for all skin types. It offers all-day wear and sheer to medium coverage in stay-true colour.” This foundation comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. I recently purchased mine in the shade NW22. I prefer to apply it with a Beauty Blender sponge. It wears well and has a nice lightweight feel on the skin.
ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation – This foundation has truly wowed me! It’s a medium-coverage, serum-infused foundation “with a radiant, skin-like finish and a featherweight feel.” I like t0 apply it with my fingers for the best coverage. A little bit goes a long way. It stays put for most of the day without the use of a setting powder. It allows skin to look refreshed and not like you’re wearing foundation at all. I wear shade Salina SF5.
