Now that the sun is shining and the temperatures are getting warmer, I feel the need to get back on my sunscreen bandwagon to remind everyone of the dangers of the sun…
I would like to take this time to urge everyone to wear their sunscreen when outdoors, come rain or shine. Yes, a tan might look good but there is actually nothing good about it. The sun causes damage to the skin that results in all sorts of ugly results in the future. Wrinkles, age spots and discolorations are just a few of them. And don’t get me started on tanning beds! Did you know that if you have been in a tanning bed that you have up to a 75% greater risk for getting skin cancer?
The thing that most people do not think about is skin cancer. Skin cancer can be deadly. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. It does not discriminate age, race or social class. Melanoma can travel to every single organ in the body. One person dies every hour from this deadly form of skin cancer. There is no cure. PLEASE everyone, wake up!! Wear your sunscreen every day. Be sure you get a physical sunscreen with high percentages of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.
My mom has been one of the unlucky ones to experience this cancer. She is currently stage 4 with metastatic melanoma. She is fighting the fight as you read this. I would just like to raise awareness of this dreadful beast that has completely taken over my thought process these past few years. Tell the people that you love to wear their sunscreen. They will look beautiful without a tan and will hopefully live long to enjoy it!!

And now in the age where we have so many self-tanners and spray tans that you don’t have to ever get a suntan from the actual sun. I wasn’t as careful when I was younger but I am now! And I always have a hat on while I’m at the beach or pool. Thinking about your mom and hope that she beats this.
