Want more youthful looking skin? At the age of 57, I’m trying to turn back the hands of time to reverse some of the damage that I did to my skin in my younger days. In reality, I’m not going to turn back time, but there are certainly procedures and products that can make my skin’s appearance to look more youthful. The SkinPen is a micro-needling device that I know can potentially help me with this. I went to VitalyC, a local medspa in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for my SkinPen treatment. They actually have several locations. I went to the Southlake location because it’s closet to my home.
When I arrived at my appointment, they used the Visio system to do a full analysis of my skin. This is a fascinating experience because it not only lets you see what’s going on the surface of your skin, but it also shows what’s lurking below. Since I was a sun worshipper in my younger days, I have a lot of skin damage and spots that haven’t even surfaced yet. They even did a video transformation for me showing me what I’d look like at age 80 if I did nothing to my skin from this point on. All I can say is SCARY!
A SkinPen (Micro-Needling) Device is a medical-grade, state-of-the art tool that uses tiny stainless steel needles to create micro injuries to the skin. This stimulates your skin’s natural ability to repair itself and produce new collagen and elastin for healthier, younger appearing skin.
To have a SkinPen procedure performed, you must have a numbing cream applied 30 minutes before the needles touch your face. I’m pretty tough as far as pain goes. However, even with the numbing cream there were parts of my face that were incredibly painful during the procedure. The forehead, in particular, is an area that causes the most pain for most people. My eyes were tearing for this part. No pain, no gain, right?!
My face was red for a little while following the SkinPen procedure. You could also see the areas where bleeding happened. I don’t think it was unsightly to others. However, I did stay inside for 48 hours. I was able to use my tinted sunscreen after just a few days and it made my healing skin much less noticeable to others. I have a series of photos below where you can see how the healing happened over the course of about 2 weeks.
Did I see improvements in my skin?
It takes a while for the skin to fully heal. It also takes a while for new collagen to be produced and for it to be noticeable to the naked eye. I’m definitely seeing some improvement in pore size and skin clarity. I feel like I have some noticeable tightening around my eye area. When I look in the mirror I feel like I see a brighter appearance over my cheekbones. It’s like a little natural glow.
How many SkinPen treatments are needed?
Depending on the condition of your skin and what your goals are, multiple treatments are needed. I believe they usually recommend a series of six. SkinPen treatments can be done any time of the year and don’t have to be reserved for Fall and Winter months like laser treatments.
It’s important to note that having treatments at the medspa or the dermatologist’s office are just one aspect of taking care of your skin. Using good quality products and using spf on a daily basis are crucial.
Have you had a Skinpen treatment done?
**Please note, I did receive this treatment free of charge in partnership with VitalyC Medspa in Southlake, TX. All opinions expressed and wording are my own.
