I think my very first products from the line were some amazing bath soaks that I received from a friend as a birthday gift. I think that sparked my interest and love for Kiehl’s. Their latest launch is the Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations. This is a personalized skincare experience.
This one-on-one consultation with a trained expert is available in select Kiehl’s stores. Lucky for me, I live close to the Dallas store and was able to partake in the experience. After having my skin evaluated I left the store with one of their first-ever customized facial concentrates. This personalized skincare product features potent concentrates that address my individual unique skin concerns based on the consultation and evaluation.
Kiehl’s was founded in 1851 as an apothecary in New York City’s East Village, dispensing prescription medicine and customized herbal and natural remedies. Relying on their extensive pharmaceutical background, Kiehl’s founding family hand-made personalized skin remedies which were available in the Kiehl’s Pharmacy right up until the 1980’s. Today, this heritage, combined with Kiehl’s commitment to the highest level of customer service, has culminated in Apothecary Preparations.
With the use of a dermatologist-inspired Skin Atlas I was guided through my consultation to assess and rank the severity of my skin concerns.

Each Kiehl’s Targeted Complex is formulated to address a customer’s specific skin concern. Key ingredients in the Targeted Complexes have been selected for their efficacy and their liposoluble nature. They are highly potent and bring powerful efficacy to the finished product.
The Targeted Complexes include the following:
- WRINKLE REDUCING COMPLEX with Retinol Concentrate & Pro-Retinol
- TEXTURE REFINING COMPLEX with Vitamin F & LHA
- VISIBLE REDNESS NEUTRALIZING COMPLEX with Sunflower Seed Extract & Vitamin E
- PORE MINIMIZING COMPLEX with Samphira Extract & Salicylic Acid
- BRIGHTENING COMPLEX with Vitamin C & Scotch Pine Extract
The Apothecary Preparation’s components were enclosed in a personalized box for me. I then mixed them to activate them at home prior to first application. I now have a highly potent, tailor-made skincare treatment to add into my skincare routine. My name is on the bottle along with the customized formula of targeted complexes that I received. I chose to work on brightening my skin along with improving the texture.

Verdict:
The personalized one-on-one consultation was lovely. I thought it was thorough, yet it was done in a very timely manner (nobody has time to spare these days). I LOVE the way the packing is done. I felt very scientific mixing my ingredients at home. LOL! I’ve been using the product for just over a week now and hope that it works to address my personal skincare concerns.

Kiehl’s is hit or miss for me but I would definitely want to try this if its going to be good! I’m currently a fan of their Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm and their Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant.
