Skincare Devices that Really Work

October 7, 2019

Are you confused or overwhelmed by all of the at-home skin are devices that are on the market? I know that I am. I’m a tech geek and a gadget girl and I tend to buy everything that promises “results at home” without having to spend a ton at the dermatologist or med spa. I recently had the opportunity to ask Dr. Manish Shah, MD, a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and anti-aging skin expert in Denver, CO to help us all out. I asked him to name his top 3 at-home skincare devices that really work. Read his answers below…

Dr. Shah’s recommended skincare devices that really work:

best at-home skincare devices

LightStim – at-home LED therapy

“I like the Lightstim device because it is made by a company that creates professional LED devices for plastic surgeons and dermatologists. The Red wavelength is great for anti-aging because it enhances blood supply and collagen creation in the skin with daily use. It also speeds up healing after facial treatments like chemical peeling, microneedling, and laser. The Blue wavelength is effective at killing acne and helping maintain blemish-free skin. They are quite powerful for at-home usage.”

Clarisonic – Facial Brush

“The Clarisonic Face Brush has good scientific studies showing its efficacy. Use of the Clarisonic prior to the application of any anti-aging face serums like Vitamin C or Retin-A allows for up to 60% deeper penetration of the serum. This means that the active ingredients in serum can get closer to their targets in the skin at higher doses. Most skincare is diluted by various mechanisms before the target cells in the skin ever get exposed to the active ingredients. Use of a Clarisonic device optimizes medical skincare.”

Theradome – laser hair therapy

“I love the Theradome because it is an easy way to help regrow thinning hair or maintain the current health of your hair. The laser wavelength used is very safe and not associated with any side effects. Unlike red light LED, laser can penetrate down about 5mm under the skin of the scalp. This is the depth one would find the hair follicles. The red laser increases blood supply to the hair follicles, enhancing delivery of oxygen and other nutrients the hair needs to grow. Treatment times are only 20 minutes 2-3 times a week. Using it more frequently won’t do any harm.”
I was so happy to hear Dr. Shah’s recommendations because I actually own two of them (I have extremely thick hair and don’t have a need for the laser hair growth device, but it’s nice to hear that there’s something that works). I LOVE all of the Clarisonic devices that I have used. You may or may not recall that I actually appeared in The Oprah Magazine last year speaking my praises about the newer Smart Clarisonic Mia device (proud bragging moment). I also have a LightStim device that I confess I purchased a while back but have not used recently. After hearing the good doctor’s advice, you’d better believe I pulled my LightStim device out and will start to use it on a very regular basis.

Let me know if you have any of these at-home devices and what you think of them.

I have a different light stim but I haven’t used it in a while. Ditto with my clarisonic. The hair laser therapy is probably great but expensive. I like hearing from the experts.

I had a clarisonic but eventually lost it and ended up loving to use my foreo luna. I agree that a lightstim is super helpful for skin repair. Ive actually used the device when i injured my hand in a weightlifting accident, lol. Id love to have the blue light therapy though since i still deal with acne.

I have a Clarisonic and love it madly! It has done wonders for my skin. I’m also very fond of my NuFace mini.

At 61 years old, I’ve never been able to consisten At 61 years old, I’ve never been able to consistently use a retinol product until now because I couldn’t handle the dry, irritated skin that I experienced when using them. #OlayPartner

@olay has this new Retinol 24 Starter that’s intentionally made for beginners and/or people with sensitive skin like me. I’m now able to get the “gold standard” benefits recommended by dermatologists with this gentler formula to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, fade dark spots and improve texture.

It’s formulated with Pro-Retinol, Triple Collagen Peptide and Aloe Vera to reveal the smoother, brighter skin that’s been unreachable until now.

And if you’re a long-time user of retinol products, they have several stronger formulas that you can check out too.

New users and those of us with sensitive skin can conveniently purchase this gentler formula at our favorite retailers or online. Give it a try. I think you’ll be as impressed as I am.

GRWM with clean beauty products — because looking GRWM with clean beauty products — because looking your best at any age isn’t about looking younger. It’s about looking like the best version of you.

At 61, I’m all about makeup that enhances my features, works well with mature skin, and still lets me look like me. I don’t want to hide behind my makeup, and I don’t think any of us need to. With the right products and techniques, makeup can simply bring out what’s already there.

I used all clean beauty makeup products to create a fresh, natural, polished look that feels good without feeling overdone.

If you’re a woman over 50—or 40, 60, or 70—and you’re looking for clean beauty, natural makeup for mature skin, makeup tips for mature skin, anti-aging makeup techniques, or natural-looking makeup that enhances instead of covers, this one is for you. ✨

Beauty doesn’t have an expiration date. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and confident.💕

Save this GRWM for your next makeup day and tell me: do you prefer a natural makeup look or something a little more glam?

As a matter of fact, I already repurchased the vitamins and prebiotics and probiotics supplement. I didn’t know Kourtney Kardashian was the owner of that brand. I only had 1 fail this time which was the terrible tasting creatine gummies. I don’t like stevia, but if you do then you may like with them.
