Optimistic Monday

November 12, 2012

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you probably noticed that I have been pretty absent for the past week.  I am sad to say that my mom passed away last week after a 3 year battle with melanoma.  She is finally free of cancer and suffers no more.  I was in Florida for the week with my family.  I now move on with my life with my mother in my heart.  Remember that each day is a gift, because it truly is.  You never know what tomorrow will bring.  Like I always say, take the time to smell the roses.  Life is short, so be kind to others and do what you love!

My beautiful mother, now an angel watching over me

If anybody would like to donate to the AIM at Melanoma organization in memory of my mom, Ellen Arker, I am including the address to do so below.  I also participate in a walk each year during the month of May if you would like to donate then.  That information will follow at a later date.

https://www.aimatmelanoma.org/en/aim-for-action/memorial-donation.html
Now for my Optimistic Monday Post:

As you can probably imagine, I accomplished pretty much nothing last week as far as doing things for myself.  I was completely focused on my dad and my family.  I did what needed to be done.   Therefore I’m going to use mostly the same goals that I set for myself last week as my goals for this week.

Goals for this week:
1.  Buy a psychology book of some kind to help myself and my family through the grieving process ahead of us.  Any recommendations?
2.  Walk 3 times
3.  Cook or bake something new.
4.  Start organizing my thoughts on  how to set something up to reach out to cancer patients and others who are ill.  I want to do some sort of system where people can make cards, send cards, etc. to those who are in need of a smile.  I will figure it out soon.
5.  Do some research on ways to improve my blog, find my tribe, etc.
6.  Start to catch up on my own life.  For the past few months I lived in limbo.  I haven’t been keeping up with my friends, blogs, and videos.
7.  Work on that crazy closet of mine…  Now that it has cooled off I need to do a bit more rearranging as well as purging.  LOL!

Of, Stacie, I am so sorry about your mother. She was beautiful and you look very similar to her. I preach daily about sunscreen and how damaging it can be. My dad suffered from the same cancer. Folks just do not get it. I pray for peace in your heart rebecca

Stacie,my heart goes out to you and your family. I know how difficult this time is, my mom died last year. You are a wonderful daughter and it was a gift that you were able to spend this time with your beloved mother. This book will help you understand the grieving process. http://www.amazon.com/On-Death-Dying-Elisabeth-Kubler-Ross/dp/0684839385/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_z

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely mother. It is never easy to lose any loved one but mom’s just always have such a special place in the heart of a daughter. My all time favorite book for dealing with grieving dates back to nursing school but there is none better. It would be- On Grief and Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through the Five Stages of Loss by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Wishing you and your family all the best.

I had their basic pedicure because I was short on time. But trust me, there was nothing basic about it! I’m headed back for a manicure today.

This is their newest location in the DFW metroplex.

Have you ever seen anything like it?😍😍
