Happy first day of 2021 my friends! For the past few years I’ve chosen a word that I felt would set my direction for the year. Some of my past words included Balance, Discover and Focus. I thought I did fairly well with the first two, however, the Covid pandemic completely threw off my choice of Focus for 2020. I have a feeling that many of us were thrown off kilter with our choices. I’ve been thinking long and hard about what my word for 2021 will be. I initially considered a do-over for the word Focus. Or perhaps even having several words for the new year. Some of my picks were mindful, improve and purpose.
After much thought I’ve decided on the word CLARITY for this year. Given how crazy, unpredictable and uncertain 2020 was, I feel that things are bit blurry right now and that this word is appropriate for me. At 55 years old I feel like I’m still trying to figure out this whole life thing.
So, what exactly is a word of the year? It’s a single word that encapsulates what you need more of, what you want to focus on, or what you need to improve on. It’s a way of setting your intentions.
The English Language Learners Definition of clarity
-
- the quality of being easily understood
- the quality of being expressed, remembered, understood, etc., in a very exact way
- the quality of being easily seen or heard
The word clarity is a noun that is also defined as “the quality or state of being clear.”
How do I plan to apply my “word” to this upcoming year?
I want to find clarity in my purpose for being here on this earth. I want more clarity in my life roles. I want to find clarity for my business i.e. the work that I do on social media and my blog. I want to find clarity to figure things out and be more clear with my diet, my exercise and the vitamins and supplements that I take to be a healthier me. I think decluttering my living space and my life will help me to see things with more clarity too, so that’s definitely on my agenda in the near future.
When I think of the word clarity I think of seeing things more clearly with better insight. You know this leads me straight into the song I Can See Clearly Now by Jimmy Cliff. Do you remember the song? The first verse goes like this…
I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day.
