This week’s Empowered Women post features a friend of mine from the OMagInsiders group. Amy and I were both part of the “inaugural 50” of Oprah Magazine Brand Ambassadors and are both on our third term. I feel lucky to have met her in person a few times. She is a kind-hearted woman who spreads happiness in our world through her amazing photography skills (among other things). I am always so impressed by her work and I know that you will be too when you explore her social media and website.
Tell us a little bit about YOU:
I am internationally published photographer with 20+ years’ experience in the industry. I focus on editorial, event, theatre, and travel photography. Mother to four teenaged and beyond sons. With camera in hand, Amy is often seen sailing, camping, and biking with her family.
I thrive on inspirational quotes. Please share one of your favorites or a mantra that you live by:
I have so many – but lately, I love: “A woman with a voice is, by definition a strong woman.” – Melinda Gates
Favorite triumph, collaboration or something you’ve experienced that you are proud of:
My husband and I have four sons, each two years apart. As our boys get older, I could not be more pleased with the fine young men they are becoming. In our home, I am the only female (even our cats are boys!) yet there is not a sense of gender specific roles. All our boys can cook and clean. I have even been known to swing a hammer or use the nematic nailer to help in one of our many home renovations over the years! Last weekend, I was thrilled to have my sons join me for the Women’s March for the second year. You’ve seen the quote – “Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.” I completely agree, but I have my own twist… Here’s to strong children. May we know them. May we raise them.
Biggest disappointment or let down that you’ve learned from:
I am much better at letting go and letting God these days. Learning and pivoting from hiccups and minor disappointments as they happen. There is always something to learn from success as well as let downs.
Favorite piece of advice for others (life, blogger, influencer, family, etc):
Make time in your day to daydream – Wonder and gratitude can change everything!
I’m all about women supporting other women. How can we support you? Feel free to share your links for connecting as well:
