The temperatures are dropping fast, friends! As the weather starts to change, it’s time to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall and then into winter. When a new season hits, you don’t always want to go spend a ton of money on a new wardrobe. I understand wanting to add a few new pieces each season. However, your current wardrobe can be easily transitional with a few key pieces. Here are a few easy ways to make the switch without spending too much money.
What does transitioning your wardrobe mean?
It simply means to switch out your summer clothes for fall clothes and from fall into winter. This can be as simple as adding a few key pieces to your wardrobe, or doing a complete overhaul if that’s your preference. I personally go with the budget-friendly or budget conscious method of transitioning.
Denim Jacket or Blazer
A denim jacket is a great way to add a little bit of warmth to your outfit without being too hot. It’s also the perfect piece to throw on over a summer dress or top when you need an extra layer. They make denim jackets that are lined with sherpa and other materials if you need even more warmth. Equally as beautiful is a nice structured blazer. You can wear them over both lightweight and/or heavier weight tops. Blazers come in so many different styles too. I think everybody needs at least one. I shared a few of my current favorites below.
Boots
Boots are a must-have for fall and winter. They not only keep your feet warm, but they also add a touch of style to any outfit. If you don’t already have a pair, now is the time to invest in some. Whether you choose a short ankle length bootie or an over-the-knee style, you can’t go wrong. If you live in an area with snow or a lot of rain, be sure to choose materials that are water resistant or can be sprayed with a fabric protector.
Scarves
Scarves are another great way to add warmth to your outfit. They can also be used as a fashion statement. Look for scarves made of wool or cashmere for the best quality.
Sweaters
Sweaters are essential for cooler weather. They come in a variety of styles, so you’re sure to find one that you love. Be sure to invest in a few different colors and patterns so you can mix and match them with your other clothing.
Cardigan
A cardigan is a great layering piece for cooler weather. It can be worn over a dress, shirt, or tank top to add a little bit of warmth or over a pretty blouse in the winter. Choose a cardigan that is made of a thicker material for the best results. This is one of my personal favorite pieces to wear from fall through spring.
Pants
Pants are a necessary part of any fall wardrobe. Choose a few pairs in different colors and styles to mix and match with your other clothing. Jeans are always a good choice, but you might also want to try corduroy or tweed for a more unique look. I think I wear some style of jeans nearly every day in the cooler months. Actually, I pretty much wear jeans every day, year round. I just change the color with the seasons.
Layers
Layering is key for fall weather. By adding a few layers to your outfit, you can easily adjust it to the temperature. A light sweater over a tank top is perfect for cooler days, and adding a scarf or jacket will keep you warm on colder days. In the winter, use heavier weight items for your layers.
Closed Toe Shoes
As the weather starts to cool down, it’s time to say goodbye to sandals and open-toe shoes. Instead, invest in a few pairs of closed-toe shoes such as boots, flats, or pumps. This will keep your feet warm and also help to transition your wardrobe for the cooler weather. Some of my favorite closed toe shoes are tennis shoes. They make so many stylish ones nowadays. I currently love the platform style.
These are just a few easy ways to transition your wardrobe for cooler weather. With a few key pieces, you can easily take your summer wardrobe into fall and beyond. What are some easy ways in which you transition your wardrobe for cooler weather?
