Did you know that today is Winter Skin Relief Day? I had no idea that this day is celebrated annually on January 8th. Since I live in Texas I don’t experience harsh winter temperatures often. However, this year has been brutal for everyone in the country, including us down in the south. My skin has been so dry and thirsty for any moisture I can feed it. I’ve needed dry skin relief from my head to my toes.
When it’s cold outside we tend to crank up the heat in the house. We also turn up the temperature in our baths and showers. The fact is that there’s less moisture in the air. These factors can zap our skin of all the glorious moisture we once knew. There are ways to protect your skin from these harsh elements. Let’s take a look at some of the things that I’m doing to keep dry skin at bay today and all winter long.
I cleanse my skin with The CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. I actually started using this cleanser many years ago when my dermatologist recommended it. It cleans, hydrates, restores and protects the skin. It contains hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture while removing dirt, oil and makeup. I use this twice daily. This product contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid. It leaves my skin feeling clean, soft and moisturized. The 8 ounce size of this cleanser retails for $11.99.
New to me is the CeraVe Healing Ointment. I’ve been so happy to have this product this winter. The skin on both my hands has been dry and chapped and downright uncomfortable. I feel like the skin on my hands gets caught on fabrics. Gross but true! I’ve been rubbing this thick non-greasy ointment into my hands and cuticles to soothe my chapped and chafed skin caused by the cold air. It works like a charm and is an essential item to have in your winter skincare arsenal.
The Healing Ointment is available is a large tub type container and in a squeeze type tube. I prefer the squeeze tube myself. The 5 ounce tube retails for $14.99, while the 12 ounce jar retails for $19.99. There are additional sizes available of the Healing Ointment starting at $3.99.
The healing ointment is hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic, dye-free, preservative-free and fragrance free. Petrolatum is the active ingredient. In addition, this product earned the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance. So if you or someone that you know suffers from eczema, this product my be useful in soothing your skin.
Next on my list of #WinterSkinRelief products are two new ones to the CeraVe line. First is the Skin Renewing Day Cream. This nice smooth moisturizer also contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid. It has a broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen that includes both physical and chemical ingredients. This product is designed to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles with its encapsulated Retinol. I love the thin consistency that spreads easily and absorbs fast into my skin. It works wonderfully under my foundation. The 1.7 ounce pump type tube retails for $24.99.
Lastly, I tried the Skin Renewing Night Cream. This moisturizer is used as part of my night-time skincare routine. The ingredients include ceramides and peptides and are designed to help reduce the look of tired skin and to support skin elasticity. This product is a little bit thicker and is more emollient feeling than the daytime cream. It’s perfect for bedtime. The 1.7 ounce jar retails for about $12.99.
More facts about the CeraVe skincare line:
- CeraVe products are developed with dermatologists
- CeraVe is the first and only brand to offer a complete line of advanced skincare products that contain an exclusive combination of ceramides 1, 3 and 6-11 to keep moisture in and irritants out.
- CeraVe products use patented MVE technology that releases ingredients slowly over 24 hours, allowing them to absorb into the skin to hydrate and nourish, as well as restore and lock in moisture to protect your skin.
Verdict:
I have nothing but good things to say about CeraVe skincare products. Firstly, they are very affordable. They are readily available at drugstores and big box type stores. All of these products that I tested are fragrance-free (a big plus to a lot of people). And most importantly, they contain ingredients that are effective at relieving dry skin. They’ve been restoring moisture to my skin and I will continue to use them throughout the winter. In addition, I will be using several of these CeraVe products year round to cleanse, moisturize and protect my skin from the elements. You can read more about CeraVe® products HERE.
