Airbrushed makeup… I’ve heard about it for a long time. My daughter had her prom makeup airbrushed on a few years ago and she looked gorgeous. When the opportunity came around for me to try the Luminess Air products, I was over-the-top thrilled. I sent the company a picture of myself so that they could help me determine the correct color of foundation for my skin. This was helpful because I didn’t want to end up with the wrong shade. There are 36 different shades available, so there should be a good match for everyone. You can also mix shades to make your own unique color.
The manufacturer states the following about the Luminess Air:
Easy to use and made for every day ● Lasts for more than 10 hours ● Oil & fragrance free, mineral water-based formula ● Very hygienic, with no need for hand or brush blending ● Minimizes the appearance of pores, wrinkles and fine lines for a youthful look ● Blends evenly, reduces amount of makeup used, & works on all skin types and colors ● Perfect for reducing appearance of blemishes, age spots, & redness
The foundation is available in 4 different formulas Silk, Ultra, Satin and Matte. I was able to choose the type of formula that I preferred. I tried the Ultra and Satin formulas. My shade is either 3 or 4, depending on the time of year. In addition to the airbrush system and foundation, my box also contained a bottle of primer, a bottle of a lighter shade for mixing colors, a bottle of brightening glow, a bottle of blush and a plastic squeeze bottle for use when cleaning the unit (not shown). The unit also comes with a DVD of video instructions.
I unpacked everything from the box, read the instructions, watched the video demonstrations and was ready to get my flawless finish. I’m not gonna lie, I thought this would be a simple task. Hold the stylus in your hand, press the “on” button, gently pull back on the trigger and spray the foundation on to your face. I am here to tell you that it takes practice to perfect the technique. You will probably not get the finished look that you want on the first few tries. I found the key to flawless foundation is to have moisturized skin and to apply several very light layers of product.
The entire application of primer, foundation and blush takes approximately 5 minutes. I simply add a few drops of the product I’m using into to the cup on the stylus. I turn the machine on and pull back about halfway with the trigger to get a light mist of product. Using a circular motion with my wrist, I apply the airbrush foundation and blush. When I complete the process I clean the machine. This takes only a minute or two. You put warm water into the cup on the stylus to clean it out. The stylus comes apart easily and reassembles easily when needed.
I’ve been experimenting with many different methods of application to find out which works best with my skin type. I prefer to use a moisturizer or serum on my skin before application of the Lunimess Air products since I tend to have dry skin lately. This has helped me to achieve a smooth non-streaky, non-cakey natural look. I sometimes apply my blush before the foundation for a more subtle pinched cheeks look. The picture below is just a few drops of blush sprayed on top of the foundation. I plan to purchase some bronzer to try it out next for bronzing and contouring. There are many additional products that can be added to your system as well. You can see all of them on their website.
Overall, this type of foundation looks nice on my mature skin. It just takes some practice to make it look good. I’ve had fun experimenting and feel like a pro doing it. I look forward to perfecting my techniques. Let me know if you’ve ever tried airbrushed makeup.

It looks lovely on you! Back in August, they asked me to try the system for review, but they made it sound like it had to be done and up immediately and I was traveling on business and ended up passing. Truth be told, I had visions of it ending up all over my bathroom since I can be mechanically declined. But seeing it on a number of bloggers including you, the finish is beautiful. Missed opportunity

I still haven’t gotten my review up yet because I’m still trying to master using it, ha! I think it’s fairly simple, but it’s taken me a while to still perfect my application, especially the blush. I think your picture looks fantastic though!

That’s why I delayed my post as well. I wanted to prove that even a person who’s not coordinated could master the application. Good luck! I look forward to your review! Stacie xo

I’ve been wanting to try airbrush makeup for awhile, since I’ve heard such great things about Temptu. But after hearing you describe the process, it sounds like a lot of work! If I’m trying to run out the door for work, I don’t think I’d want to clean out the brush every time. I might just stick with my tried and true foundation brush (or more often that not, my hands). Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Yes, there is a bit of work that goes into it. There may be quicker ways to get by, but I’m a little ocd when it comes to following the directions, so I clean it every time and that adds an extra minute or two. Thanks for reading! Stacie xo

I think I’d be very intimidated by the system itself, but it looks like you have a great handle on it!

I’m getting better with each application. It’s a little bit harder for me, but I think it’s because I tend to have drier skin. Thanks so much for stopping by! Stacie xo

I’ve heard great things about airbrushing systems (particularly Luminess), but they definitely are a bit scary to me haha! The final result is gorgeous though!

For the price I wish there was a place that I could go and get it done to me to see if i like it. Rather than guessing at colors and makeup finishes. someplace like Ulta or Sephora would be nice if they would offer free or low cost trial time. Would probably sell more if we could touch and see and feel before buying. Make up is a lot of guess work and a lot of money. So I am careful of what i spend and never buy online. I would if i could try it first and have someone walk me thru the products. I am 60 and still have a good complextion but would like to enhance it.

I feel the same way. I would love to have a test application before buying.

I’m returning my kit ,not even going to try it!
I don’t like deceptive advertising. Nowhere did it say there would be 3 more payments of 39.95 to own the product after the initial 29.95.
Then there is the 25% restocking fee never mentioned. The charges for future makeup kit were mentioned.
It looks like a great product but I have a thing about deceptive advertising. I just don’t understand why a reputable company can’t just tell you upfront what their product is going to cost ! They will eventually go out of business .
Shame Shame

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that!! What a terrible shame. I didn’t buy my kit as it was a pr sample for me to review but I’m sad to hear that. Stacie xo

I’m interested in trying it and it looks beautiful on you and others in the ads but all the negative reviews I have read really concern me about this product and company. From the product arriving broken and the, the hassles to get it replaced, to the poor and horrible customer service when calling or emailing and then there’s the unnecessary auto ship. What if you don’t use the product everyday or as often? the company will keep on sending it when you really don’t want it or want to pay for it when it’s not needed yet. Not a fan of auto ship at all!! From what others have experienced, it sounds very frustrating to stop the auto ship or get good customer service! I agree with some, it would be nice to try before I buy. I guess I’m not sold on it yet.

I’m so sad to hear of all of the negative feedback on this company. It’s really too bad. I would recommend finding a company with good customer service if you plan to invest your money in an expensive device. Stacie xo
