What is Your Stone?

August 26, 2015

Most of you have probably heard of Frank Gifford and his recent passing.  I was watching the Today Show and saw Kathy Lee talking about her beloved husband and his legacy.  She really got me to thinking.  She spoke of the strong faith of her husband.  When they recently took a trip to the Holy Land they brought back stones.  They gifted them to family members and challenged each one to figure out where they would cast their stone.  What is my stone?  What is “my place” in the world and what am I doing to make it a better place?

When I was a child my grandmother took a trip to the Holy Land.  She brought back a beautiful stone for me.  I’ve cherished it my whole life.  I took it with me to college and proudly displayed it on a variety of different shelves throughout the years.  Somehow the stone ended up at my parents home in Florida.  I felt awkward taking it back but knew that it was mine and that it wasn’t going anywhere.  After my Dad passed away this summer I finally took my stone home with me to Texas.  Now I look at the stone differently.  I’m still trying to figure out exactly “what is my stone?”  How will I make a difference?

The stone that I keep on my shelf for inspiration

One of the things that I’ve done so far that I feel is making a difference in the lives of others is the group that I started to honor my mom after she passed away in 2012.  It’s called Give a Smile Today.  You can go check it out on my website.  What we do is send cards to people suffering from cancer or another illness.  Our number one goal is to shower these people with cards to make them smile and to provide encouragement during a time when they really need it.

I’m still casting my stone in other areas as well.  I think it takes time to figure out how you can make a difference in this world.  So tell me, What is your stone?

I think my stone has probably changed over the years. The idea that there is a time and season for each thing. I’m not sure what my stone is now. I do work with a local handmade arts group that puts on various craft shows. One of our goals at each show is to provide a free vendor/booth space for a local charity to help them get more exposure for their cause. It’s been a great way to meet local charities and find out more about how we as a community can help them.

During the 9-11 crisis, when my husband was there (safe) and I was helpless in getting him home, I went for a walk and picked up a stone. I used it as a worry stone for every walk I took while he was gone. I know it’s not the same thing, but when I looked at that stone, I was reminded to pray for not just my husband, but for the world itself.

I think that’s great Patti! I’m a born worrier. I remember that day all too well. My husband was away on a business trip during 9/11 and so was my mom. Stacie xo

Don’t let the seasons fool you, SPF is a year-ro Don’t let the seasons fool you, SPF is a year-round necessity! Protect that skin, rain or shine!

If you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and even the 90’s, then you probably remember that getting a tan was cool. Oh, how we were fooled!

Now we’re all suffering with sun damage and are maybe looking a little bit (or a lot) older than we want.

I’m always exploring new sunscreens and this one is a winner! It’s super lightweight and easy to apply. Thanks Shiseido!

Personalized and sentimental jewelry is my favorit Personalized and sentimental jewelry is my favorite because of the meaning behind it. This necklace from @haverhill checks all the boxes and then some! It’s meant to be passed down between generations.

It’s all handcrafted with solid 14K gold and gemstones. Everything is ethically sourced and sustainably made right here in the USA.

I chose a necklace with 2 initials with 2 gemstones (mine and my husband’s initials). I love that I can wear it without worrying about it tarnishing because of the high quality materials that it’s made with. I almost never take it off.

Be sure to visit their website (haverhill.com) if you’re looking for meaningful jewelry items for yourself or someone you love.
