Happiest Sunday everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week and weekend. It rained cats and dogs here in Texas for most of the weekend so far. It was also colder than normal. I’m not a fan of either the cold nor the rain, so I’m glad it was short lived. My brother, daughters and grandchildren and I were supposed to walk in the Melanoma Walk in Dallas on Saturday, but it was cancelled/postponed due to the weather. So instead, we had a lazy nap filled weekend watching sports on tv. What did you do?
I tried not to spend too much time on social media and my phone lately because I was starting to feel a little dizzy. Has that ever happened to you? I did a little bit of research and saw something called Cyber Sickness. It’s basically like motion sickness and it happens to me maybe once a year or so. Here’s how it’s defined:
If you’ve ever felt nauseated after reading in the car, cybersickness is much the same. “Our eyes and ears have special mechanisms for perceiving our surroundings and cybersickness (and all types of motion sickness) happens when there’s a mismatch between what your eyes see and the motion sensed by your body. When eyes see movement but the vestibular system—the mechanism of the inner ear responsible for balance and spatial awareness–thinks the body is at rest, the mismatched signals cause the brain to experience motion sickness. In the case that screens are involved, this is called cybersickness. When your body knows it’s sitting still but your eyes see a character running through a virtual world or the rapid movement of a scroll bar, your senses get confused.”
I’ve been taking a tiny bit of Dramamine before bed for a few nights and I’m starting to feel better now. Thank goodness.
For this week’s Sunday with Stacie post, I thought it would be fun to tell you 10 facts about me that you most likely don’t already know. I enjoy learning about other people that I’m in contact with so I thought you might enjoy getting to know me.
- I was born in New York. Technically this makes me a native New Yorker. I only lived there until I was in the the 5th grade when my family moved to Florida. As a kid from NY, this was the coolest thing to be able to swim in the middle of the winter.
- I went to college at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. And then I followed that gig with college in San Antonio, Texas because I wasn’t ready to be a grown up yet. I went to The University of Texas Health Science Center and got another degree. This time it was a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy. I worked for 10 years as a therapist in one of our local school districts.
- When I retired I opened a retail store in my town that sold invitations and gifts. It was fun, but it was hard work 24/7. When my lease was up, I was done.
- I started doing influencer work before the word influencer even existed. That was back in 2010 when I started a YouTube channel talking about makeup and skincare.Things evolved, I started this blog, more social platforms were born and here we are.
- I was an Oprah Magazine Insider for a few years and got to have so many amazing opportunities, like going on a cruise to Alaska, having a photoshoot in NYC, appearing in the Oprah magazine, going to Oprah’s Favorite Things event in 2018 and so much more. But you know what, the people that I met through that experience is more special than any of the other things. These ladies have been a very special part of my life.
- My hobbies include reading, gardening and photography. I try to take time to do these at least once a week.
- I consider myself to be a work in progress. I enjoy learning new things and am always involved in some sort of webinar or class. I recently took a skincare class and am thinking of taking a styling class next. I signed up for a Craftsy membership too so that I can take as many classes as I want throughout the year. They offer some good ones in gardening and home decorating that I’d like to try. It’s all online, so I can watch the videos at my own pace. I recommend giving them a look if you like learning too. I think it’s under $3 for a year long membership right now.
- I’m a private person and an open book at the same time. I share a lot about myself on social media, but not necessarily speaking all the time. I never talk politics or religion. I hate confrontations. I love being with other people, but I need my time alone too. I think they call that an introverted extrovert.
- I LOVE traveling and would love to move to another country for a year. I’m turning 60 next year and hope that maybe I can convince my husband to do something like that while we’re still able to. I’d even settle for 6 months somewhere else. I just think it would be fun. Maybe somewhere in Europe where we could travel around a little bit. We’ll see…
- I love country music and it’s my music of choice most of the time. I used to listen to it in the car when nobody was with me. Then when it finally became very popular and my kids started listening to it too, I could blast it and admit my love for it. I used to listen to Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood and Faith Hill when my kids were little and we’d all sing along in the car running from one lesson to another. I do also like other types of music, especially James Taylor, Chicago and Genesis (Phil Collins).
