Hi! Tamara here again with a review of some new (to me) products. This time, it’s a brand that is new to me. In fact, I had never even heard of them. Have you heard of Sebamed skincare? Maybe I’m just out of the loop but they are completely new to me so I was very excited to try out a few of their products. According to their website, they are geared toward sensitive and problematic skin. The following excerpt is from their website:
“sebamed represents one of the leading brands for medicinal skin care with a pH value 5.5 of healthy skin. All products of the sebamed range contain high-quality active ingredients which cleanse and nourish the skin without destroying the natural acid protection mantle. More than 120 scientific studies have tested the high effectiveness and very good skin compatibility of all sebamed products and confirm their skin care competence for sensitive and problematic skin.”
If you’re like I was and don’t really understand what pH balance means, you should check out their website http://www.sebamed.com/en/. They have a very informative site that explains it all and they even have quizzes you can take if you’re unsure of what skin or hair type you have. Fortunately, I do not have sensitive or problematic skin so I cannot attest to how well these products perform in that capacity, but I did have some hits and misses based on how they perform for my normal skin and hair.
I’ll start with my favorite product, the Sebamed Spa Shower which they describe as “Soap-free shower emulsion for daily gentle cleansing, making the skin supple and smooth”. I have used so much of this that I now have it sitting upside down in my shower so I can get the last bit out of the bottle. It has a very clean and refreshing scent that reminds me of the original Coast soap that my mom bought when I was younger. Anyone else remember the blue and white swirled bars of Coast soap? It’s a very light pleasant scent that I enjoy. I don’t fully understand the science behind the pH balance thing but I do think there is some truth to it because I’ve noticed that while using this, I have less body odor when I sweat. It’s not a fun thing to talk about or admit, but yes, when I exercise and get sweaty, I smell…and I don’t like it. I like to smell good. This definitely helps with that. It leaves my skin feeling clean, soft, and hydrated which I also enjoy. I will definitely be repurchasing this product.
My next favorite is the Sebamed Hand and Nail Balm which is described on their website as a “Moisturizing oil-in-water care balm for fatigued hands and nails”. I love that this product is good for my hands AND nails because I feel like I often neglect my nails. This feels great on my hands. It absorbs very quickly and leaves absolutely no greasy residue…at all. My hands feel so soft and silky smooth after using this. It has a very light clean scent that I enjoy but really only smell if I put my hands right up to my face. I’m an obsessive hand washer and my hands really suffer during the winter so I’m curious to see how this helps with the chapping and redness during the coming months. I’m definitely enjoying it so far.
I’ve also been testing the Sebamed Age Defense Q10 Protection Cream. According to their website, this is a “Light, rich oil-in-water emulsion for age-induced changes in the skin and prevention of further skin damages”. The package claims that you will have “less visible wrinkles in 28 Days”. Now, to be fair, I don’t feel like I really have too many wrinkles yet…the one benefit of having oily skin all my life. I do have a few fine lines and after using this diligently every single night for over six weeks, I don’t really see a difference in those. Maybe it should be used twice a day for optimum results, but I don’t feel like this is a light formula. It feels very heavy to me and I had to really work to rub this in. It’s too heavy for me to use in the mornings. My skin did feel very hydrated and soft while using this but I personally prefer a lighter, quicker absorbing moisturizer. I like it well enough to finish off what I have, but I don’t think I would repurchase this product.
Finally, I tried out the Sebamed Everyday Shampoo and this is the one product that I just didn’t enjoy. It is described on their website as “Extra mild cleansing due to surfactant for daily hair care and protection for scalp”. I have thick, naturally curly, color treated hair and I really need a moisturizing shampoo. This left my hair feeling almost stripped. It felt very flat and lifeless after using this. It’s almost as if it got my hair too clean if that makes sense. It has a light pleasant scent and lathers well, but it just didn’t do my hair any favors. I think I may try it as a body wash when I run out of the Shower Spa. It has a lot of great reviews and great ingredients…maybe my hair is just too spoiled.
All of Sebamed’s products are filled with great ingredients that promote healthy skin and are backed by science. I think it’s wonderful that the entire brand is geared toward sensitive and problematic skin. They don’t test on animals and even have a full line of products designed for men and babies.

I’ve heard of this skincare brand, but I’ve never tried it before. I’m adding some of these to my list of items to try because I’m curious now that I know someone has actually enjoyed a few of their products! They seem interesting to me!

I’m not familiar with this brand, but their product line looks terrific. I am going to check out the pH meter. Anastasia Smith is a pH fiend when it comes to facial cleanser, and she always determines the pH with little strips. I’m going to see what SebaMed suggests for me based on their survey

I have two male friends that have shaved their heads (they were close to being totally bald) and they swear by Sebamed to moisturize their heads. I don’t know how it came up in conversation but it was interesting to learn and now I think of them whenever I see the products.

The website says they do not test on animals. Isn’t that a requirement to sell in China? I know from your blog that you’re very thorough in your questioning of brands regarding being cruelty free. I’m interested to hear what you know of this brand and if they are cruelty free. Is this a recent change?

Never heard of this brand, but to be fair I but most hair care products at the grocery store. I wonder how the shampoo would perform for straight hair, curly usually needs tons of moisture.
Tamara Dungan says
Yeah, my hair is fussy. It would probably work better on finer hair as well. Thanks for reading!
