I need to rant!!! Do you ever have one of those moments where you can’t even believe what someone says so you just feel the need to rant about it to someone who will listen? I’ve already ranted to a few people about this one, but just thought I’d come over here to blog and rant some more. Maybe by the time I’m done typing I’ll feel better…
This morning my friend and I met at a local Starbucks to have some breakfast and chat. All of the tables were occupied when I arrived at about 9:50 a.m. So, like usual I asked a lady who was working on her laptop if I could sit with her. After all, she was one person sitting at a table for four. The woman gladly let me sit at her table. My friend arrived about 15 minutes later. The woman looked up at us right as my friend was about to sit down. The woman said, “if you’re going to be social can you leave this table. I’m working on a contract.” I could not even believe my ears. Since when is Starbucks her personal office? I did exchange a few pleasant words with her and basically said that people like her ruin it for the people who come to the establishment for the purpose that it is intended.
My friend and I walked away in disbelief. Of course there was nowhere else to sit because two of the other tables for four were also taken by single people working on laptops so we sat outside in the cold. Yes, 50 degrees is cold to us. LOL! Where on earth has consideration for others gone? I know that this is totally trivial compared to more important things going on in the world. However, I thought this was crazy and I had to rant here to hopefully feel better about it. So tell me, what would you do in this type of situation? I personally think it’s getting a little crazy in public places that provide free wifi. I think there should be a few plaques or reminder signs placed around these establishments reminding people to be considerate of others and promote community.
So there’s my rant! I feel so much better already…

Maybe you should tell the Starbucks manager about your experience, maybe he/she would be open to suggestions on how to make things better for all of Starbucks customers, perhaps certain tables designated for people on laptops who want to sit together quietly and work on their laptops.

I agree that they need to do something to control the issue at peak times of the day. I mentioned it to one of the cashiers, but I’m sure she has no control over what goes on. She felt bad for us and was speechless herself. Thanks for stopping by and listening to my rant! Stacie xo

Are you serious??? What a rude, self-absorbed woman! I totally agree places that offer free wifi need to place signs to be courteous to others and not hog tables. And they need to enforce it! Starbucks is one of the worst places (in terms of people thinking it’s their personal office and sitting at a table for hours). I hope you feel better about it!

I do feel better now that I’ve vented. However, when I think about it I still can’t believe the rudeness. Thanks for stopping by Karen! Stacie xo

I totally agree Stacy!!!!- People take advantage and think it’s there personal home office- The same thing happen to me at a Starbuck in Target- along time ago when my girl was just a baby– she couldn’t hear her call — I just look and well that’s what you get at a public place— I wish I had a better come-back–

It just seems to be getting out of hand these days. But a Starbucks inside a Target?! That’s a weird place to expect silence. Thanks for stopping by the blog Kelly. Stacie xo
