We’re having record cold temperatures here in Texas. I know that many of you are experiencing the same where you live. This cold, windy, harsh weather isn’t friendly to our lips. In fact, it’s more of an enemy because these wintry conditions contribute to dry chapped lips. Add in the extra heat being turned on in our homes and our lips can be a disaster if we don’t consciously take care of them. Staying hydrated by drinking lots of extra water can help as well.
Keeping our lips soft and moisturized throughout the freezing winter months can be a tricky task. Chapped lips are unpleasant to deal with, and unfortunately, not all lip balms are created equal. Some just don’t live up to the task of moisturizing our lips well. All too often, we buy dozens of different products only to discover none of them get the job done. If you’re looking for a solution that actually works, here are some of my favorite lip balms that have worked great for me. These are sure to keep your lips soft and hydrated all winter long.
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm $8.00
Available in an array of different scents and flavors, this lips balm is ultra-moisturizing. There’s a reason it’s a favorite on the Sephora website…. It works! Skins conditioners and antioxidants work to relieve dry, chapped skin. And what’s more, it’s free of the nasty stuff like parabens and sulfates.
Beessential All Natural Honey Lip Balm – $8.29 for a 3 pack
I love this nice simple lip balm that’s used to heal and prevent dry and chapped lips. It’s great for the whole family. It’s made with moisturizing beeswax, coconut, shea and cupuacu butter. There are several varieties available and I recommend them all!
Bali Balm Sweet Orange and Coconut Lip Balm – $19.99
Essential oils of sweet orange and coconut give this lip balm it’s citrusy, tropical aroma and silky-smooth consistency. Sweet orange is packed with vitamin C, which is known to even skin tone and protect against free radicals. Coconut is a natural emollient that moisturizes for soft, supple lips. Mint is refreshingly uplifting and has a gentle plumping effect. This one feels really nice on my lips.
Lano Lips Green Apple 101 Multi-Balm $13.50
This balm has become popular for it’s incredible hydrating qualities. Lanolin infused with Vitamin E means it seals in moisture to keep even the driest lips soft and smooth. It’s also multi-use, helping bring moisture to cracked heels or cuticles.
Rosebud Salve $7.00
This one’s a classic, and it’s built up a great reputation for keeping lips soft. It calms irritated skin and works on more than just your lips! It’s been known to help with other areas, like elbows, where your skin becomes dry and cracked in the winter months. It’s also available now in convenient tube packaging!
Babo Botanicals Lip Tint Conditioner $9.99
This Babo lip conditioner checks all the right boxes. It’s affordable, provides a natural tint in an array of color options, and it’s full of antioxidants and vitamins to keep lips smooth. But wait, there’s more! This lip conditioner has SPF 15, which is essential for those cold days when the sun is still shining.
Clarins Hydra-Essential Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm $25
Clarins is a name that’s loved and trusted by many. This lip balm uses blue lotus wax, which is high in fatty acids, to help restore and moisturize chapped lips. Cocoa extract then works to give lips a plump, full look. What’s more, it’s free of all the yucky stuff like parabens and sulfates.
Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Balm $26
Another product that’s maybe a little on the expensive side for a lip balm, but worth it! This fresh Cosmetics therapy balm is designed to hydrate lips AND reduce fine lines for a fuller look. It’s the anti-aging cream of lip balms! With added orange extract to protect your lips, it’s available in sheer or a tinted pink finish.
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm $5.49
Good old Burt’s Bees has earned its fan favorite status. It’s extremely affordable, available in an array of scents and tints, and it keeps lips happy! Providing 8 hours of moisture with a sheer, natural looking lip tint, it’s no wonder these balms are so popular. And you really can’t beat the price!
Mario Badescu made a name for himself in the beauty industry by providing top quality skin care products… and this lip balm is no different. It’s ultra-nourishing, suitable for all skin types, paraben free, and dye free. A simple product that works.
Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment $31This lip treatment is made to be applied once in the morning (before other lip products) and once at night to keep your lips soft. It helps to keep moisture locked in, and it also repairs the appearance of fine lines around the lips for a younger look. You’re getting a lip balm and an anti-aging solution all in one, tiny package.
I also have a few overnight lip treatments that I love because they keep my lips hydrated while I’m sleeping. Two of my favorites are the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and the Apple + Baume Glow Lip Mask from Seraphine Botanicals. You can’t go wrong with either of these lip conditioning treatments. They’ll have you waking up with conditioned lips that are ready to take on the day.
- Don’t lick your lips, as many of us have a tendency to do this when our lips are chapped (I know I’m guilty of doing this). This only makes the condition worse because as the saliva dries on the lips it takes away moisture from the lips.
- Don’t pick or bite at the dry skin on your lips. This can risk making your lips bleed which will only take longer to heal.
- Do use a humidifier to help increase moisture to the skin.
- Do have patience. Using lip balm products several times a day should have your lips back to normal in just a few days.
Make it a priority to take care of your lips all winter long. Staying hydrated and applying lip balm throughout the day make the most difference for me.

Hey, Thanks for reviewing these products. Chapped lips is one of the biggest problems in winter. I have been using Burt’s Bees for quite a decade long. It works wonders.
