Shaving is something that most of do to get nice smooth skin. I’ve been partaking in this task for almost 40 years now. I’ve used a variety of products to get a nice close shave and silky smooth skin. I recently had the opportunity to try a new method of softening the hair to prep for shaving. This would be the Somersets Shaving Oils.
Somersets shave oils are formulated for both women and men. They use high quality natural ingredients, such as tea tree, aloe vera, lavender and rosemary. They contain no drying soaps or chemical foams. The result is no redness, irritation, bumps or nicks… just silky soft skin.
The pink bottle is the Extra Sensitive formula for legs and underarms. The blue bottle is the Extra Delicate formula which is specially formulated for women’s extra delicate bikini area.
There are also 3 different shaving oils for men. I have samples and plan to give them to my husband to see if he finds this type of shaving something that he likes.
How to Use:
For best results shave in a warm shower or bath. Ideally exfoliate once or twice a week as this helps deep cleanse your skin and discourages ingrowing hairs.
Wet skin with warm water, apply 3-5 drops of Somersets Shaving Oil per leg, 1-2 drops for each underarm, and massage into skin. Then shave slowly and carefully in the direction of your hair’s growth. Rinse your blade frequently to help keep it clean and to prevent clogging. Keep your skin wet during the shave as this helps the oil provide lubrication and protection.
For electric shavers, apply 1 to 2 drops of Shaving Oil and massage in before shaving as normal.
Afterwards rinse with cool water, you do not need to rinse off all the oil (it will help keep your skin supple), pat your skin dry and then apply a moisturizer to help soothe and hydrate your skin.
For dry shaving on-the-go, massage in 4-5 drops of Shaving Oil and shave carefully. Pat your skin dry afterwards.
These shave oils are made in Henley-on-Thames England and are now available in the United States. Somersets can be found in Walgreens, Target.com, Drugsto
I’ve used the Somersets Shave Oils for women a few times. They have a strong botanical scent to them, which isn’t my personal favorite type of scent. I got a nice close shave on my legs and my skin felt well hydrated and soft after use. On my first use I had to clean out the blades on my razor after every few swipes with the razor since the oils accumulate between the blades. That being said, I used way more product than was recommended and this was resolved when using the recommended 3 drops per leg. Overall, I like this product. The only con for me is the scent. However, this is a matter of preference.
