A few weeks ago I shared a post about my garden. By popular demand, today I’m posting My First Garden Update. I’ve learned so much in the past few weeks. I should say that I’ve learned some lessons in the past few weeks. My tomato plants thrived from the beginning. Aside from having holes in some leaves (I assume from insects of some sort) these plants are doing well. I’ve been eating the cherry tomatoes in my salads.
My cucumber plants started out along the front of the garden. My dog kept stepping on them and they looked terrible. I ended up moving them to the left front of the garden, planting an additional two plants and getting rid of the broken seedlings. The cucumber plants are now thriving. To the right of the cucumbers I added two cabbage plants along with two pepper plants. So far, so good with these too.
My strawberry plants are growing like crazy. The only problem I’m having with the strawberries is that with all of the rain that we’ve had, we’ve had unwanted pests called slugs. YUCK! I had a he juicy strawberry on a vine and when I turned it over there was a huge hole and a slug enjoying the fruit.
I ended up trying a variety of organic pesticides to no avail. Today I purchased another spray product for the leaves of the plants that have holes from insects. I also added some slug bait and kill to the garden. I’m hoping to intercept the slugs before they can get to my strawberries and other vegetables. Check out my pictures below. Any advice from my “seasoned” gardener friends is welcome with open arms!
